Get ready to Shift into Cruze Control: 2011 Chevy Cruze

The all New Chevy Cruze seeks to out do competitors in power, space and affordability. Take a peak inside.

Get out of the way Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla there is a New, larger, more powerful and refined compact Chevrolet that has arrived at our dealership: the 2011 Chevy Cruze.

At the introduction last week in Toronto, Kevin Williams, president of General Motors Canada, told us that the Cruze is “the most important product in the history of GM.”

He went on to say that GM “needed a change” and that the Chevy Cruze is the “best designed and built compact in the Automotive World.” The new GM is more humble and has placed their customers’ needs first and this new direction seems to be paying off.

2011 Chevy Cruze : Stat Lines

Cruze challenges conventional compact wisdom with one simple word: more. Its cavernous, quiet interior and beautifully sculpted exterior feel like luxury. Cruze is filled with performance, safety and technology features you won’t believe come in a compact. Want more? How about 10 standard air bags(4) and OnStar®(5) Turn-by-Turn Navigation standard for the first six months. And there is still more to the “more”.

4 million miles of testing

Over 4 million miles of testing

The Cruze blueprint chose solutions over sacrifices, and then fine-tuned each one over 4 million miles of durability testing. When we wanted to test handling and braking, where better than on the ice and snow of Scandinavia? Cruze proved itself in some hostile environments: continuous driving in the heat of the Arabian Desert, high-altitude in the Alps, intense moisture in Thailand and more. Then it was put through the paces on some of the best test tracks in the world, including the famed Nürburgring in Germany. Cruze is one of the most tested vehicles in Chevrolet history, and that’s why we guarantee the quality with a 100,000 mile/5-year Powertrain Warranty(3).

Cruze is not just trying to compete with other compacts, it’s looking for the decisive victory. And it is not just in standard fuel economy that Cruze has the competition beat. Check out the chart on the right and see why Cruze is the more complete option.

Comparison Chart

Fuel-saving technology most compacts don’t offer

Cruze has solutions that most compacts don’t offer. One is standard six-speed transmissions, like the manual in Cruze LS that helps offer 26 MPG city and 36 highway(6). Cruze LT and LTZ have a six-speed automatic transmission and the 1.4L turbocharged engine. It’s a performance increase that still helps Cruze offer 36 MPG highway(6). Coming late 2010, Cruze ECO is expected to offer up to 40 MPG highway(7). That’s better standard highway fuel economy than 2011 Ford Focus or 2010 Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla offer(8).

How do you create an efficient car that’s fun to drive? It has to start with the engine. The available 1.4L turbocharged engine is the ideal size — small yet powerful — designed for efficiency without compromising performance. It delivers 138 horsepower and accelerates with authority. Cruze takes on tight corners with rack-mounted electric power steering and a race-proven Z-link rear suspension(9). It’s a driving experience you might not expect in a compact. And that’s the point.

Generous room and comfort

Cruze only seems like a compact from the outside. Inside, it’s a different story. The cavernous interior of Cruze not only has more room than Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, but it also has more cargo space too. That’s something to brag about, but Cruze chooses to go about things quietly in the interior. It’s designed with 30 distinct acoustical treatments — including a triple-sealed, acoustic-laminated glass windshield — to create a serene interior.

The “more” approach to safety

Cruze engineers applied the same philosophy to safety that they did to everything else. That’s why Cruze comes with 10 standard air bags(11) — to help protect heads, chests and knees. It comes with a high-strength steel safety cage and roof crush resistance that outperforms the requirements. Best of all, every Cruze comes protected and connected by OnStar®(5) with the Directions & Connections Plan® — including Automatic Crash Response — standard for the first six months.

Intuitive technology

Intuitive technology

It’s great to have the latest gadgets and modern technology, but they can get lost if they’re not put in the right places. And since Cruze has so much standard and available technology, designers had to take a fresh approach to console design. The result is ergonomic and sharp-looking — everything is right where you can see it, touch it and use it.
